RSGB SSB Field Day 26

The contest team had a very busy weekend taking part in both the 2M Trophy and SSB Field Day.

Firstly a really big thank you to John ME1JDU and Baz M7TNK for all the effort they put into getting the site ready for the weekend. Ray G0GER, Mike 2E0MKH, Keith M0IHN, Phil 2E0ZDX along with John and Baz made quick work of getting the equipment set up on the Friday with just the Rigs and a few other bits left to sort out on Saturday.

Donald G4MEE was running the 2m Station entering the 6 Hour category.

The HF Station was an Icom 7300, LDG AT-Pro 200 Autotuner, Cushcraft A3S Beam with 40m extensions (This also performed really rather well on 80m!), Heil Pro 7 Headset, SM50 Desk microphone. We used N1MM+ for logging, it was another opportunity to practice with the contest logging software.

A nice spread across Europe and further afield. Unfortunately the contest coincided with the All Asian DX Contest and lots of the more exotic stations weren't interested in working us!

A solid effort by those who took part.

Our best DX was YB1GAL in Indonesia - 7395 Miles.

Thanks to Phil and Mike who took the first shifts and encouraged Kev a brand new club member to log one of his first contest QSO's with us. We are always happy to support people looking to take part for the first time so definitely get in touch if you'd like to take part in the next one. A big shout out to John M0JFE, Kevin M6PQW and John's dog Sully who did a great job on the night shift, especially when I had assured them the generator had enough fuel in! Good effort getting the station back up and running after it turned out I was wrong around 3am!

Mike arrived back at 5am, with a quick trip for more petrol, then John ME1JDU returned to cook up bacon barmcakes which it has to be said went down a treat. Keith M0IHN and Ray G0GER took us up to the end of the contest and then it was time to start taking it all down again helped by Les. It was nice to see Dave G8KBH and Ted G3WBB come along to support the club.

It was a great weekend with some good laughs, good food and some good times on the radio.

Just time for a quick plug for the CQ World Wide DX Contest we will be taking part in on the weekend of 24th-25th October, we will be taking part int the whole event so do need some operators. TCARS members can join in the chat on our Discord, if you're new to the club or looking to get involved for the first time, send us an email on [email protected] or use the contact us form.
